The earthquake of January 12, 2010 caused unprecedented destruction of human and physical capital, with losses estimated at 120 percent of Haiti’s 2009 GNP. Without support from the relief agencies, particularly those of the international community , the situation would be worse.

7. Haiti Aid Watchdog Tour in the USA to promote on Aid effectiveness, Accountability and Transparency
From May 23 through 27, 2011 the Executive Director of Haiti aid Watchdog, a local non profit in Haiti visited the Oxfam office in Haiti to take part at a conference on Aid effectiveness and transparency. Mr. Karl Jean-Louis presented the complex situation in Haiti regarding aid effectiveness and transparency.

Haiti aid watchdog has launched a monthly round table in order to encourage and facilitate communication among the stakeholders working in the Humanitarian sector. The round tables represent the only forum whereby IDP’s Project Manager, the local press and government officials meet to present their accomplishments and respond to the various questions raised by the people living under the tents.

The earthquake has created an unprecedented situation in Haiti and has exacerbated the suffering of the Haitian people throughout the country. Fifteen months after the earthquake, the government of Haiti (GOH) has proven its inability to play a leadership role in coordinating the massive international humanitarian and recovery effort. Chronic ineffectiveness of the humanitarian aid has become a major concern for both the Haitian citizens and the international community.
